kitchen meets terrazzo
The original kitchen was quite dark, so our priority was to brighten up the space. Both homeowners are passionate cooks, so we designed a kitchen island that can be used from every side. Observing how they move through the space, we considered their daily routines, the light, and the sightlines to the outdoors. From this analysis, the kitchen plan took shape — a free-standing playful island that allows the family to cook, dine, socialize and move around comfortably.
The Palladiana floor in reclaimed and recyled natural stone becomes the eye-catching centerpiece of the interior, bringing texture and warmth, while the connection to the garden and the living room area fills the kitchen with light, color, and the spirit of an Italian summer.
An Italian summer is brought indoors through the garden, with a Palladiana floor crafted from reclaimed natural stone. Light, color, and the joy of cooking come together for this family in Mechelen.
